The Heart of the Matter

woman in beige blazer sitting on white bedAs you know, I have been encouraging our congregation as of late to begin to seek the Lord in a special way concerning the state of our nation; not only praying in response to the things we are seeing (pandemic, protests, political scene, etc.), but to allow Him to stir and burden our hearts according to His will and the “bigger picture”.

Consider this . . . if God were to suddenly return the world to the way it was last fall, would any of the underlying issues really be fixed? Would the spinning of information to further personal agendas - that has us so confused and mistrusting - vanish? Would the kind of rivalry that leads our two main political parties to spend their time working AGAINST one another instead of working FOR the country be gone? Would inequities in policies towards certain minorities and some people’s racial bias go away? And . . .  would the moral decay, caused by turning away from the Lord – which is really the heart of our troubles – change? The obvious answer is no.

It’s not enough then to pray that the “exterior” problems get fixed. The church needs to cry out for change at a deeper level – at the heart level – something only God can do.  Let’s take some time to get in to God’s presence; to see things from His perspective, and to respond with heartfelt intercession for revival/awakening in this nation. Pray that we ALL return to God with a whole heart . . . and that He respond in mercy; pouring out His Holy Spirit upon us.
